Fall enrollment is now open. For the safety of our communities, we are committed to holding classes online through December 31st. VIEW COURSES

Geometry

Academic Year Mathematics

Students learn how to think spatially in our Geometry course. We start with fundamental concepts, from which we build a rich, rigorous tapestry of relationships. Students learn how to dissect complex configurations and discover the key insights that allow them to solve difficult problems. We also teach analytic methods for tackling geometry problems by placing them on the Cartesian plane, and we introduce trigonometry, thereby laying foundations for precalculus and calculus. Many of the challenging problems of Geometry come from contests such as MATHCOUNTS and AMC 10/12, with a few problems from very advanced contests included to stretch the strongest students.

Students completing Geometry are ready to return to their study of algebra with our Algebra 2 course.

Textbook: Introduction to Geometry by Art of Problem Solving

Hardcopy and temporary access to the online version of the textbook are included in the tuition and fees of this course.

Sample Problems

Below are examples of some of the types of problems that students will encounter in our Geometry course.
"My children have been students of AoPS Academy for several years now. The staff is very good at identifying and encouraging high achieving students to attain their fullest potential. The instructors engage kids to solve tough math problems, and push them to think logically and come up with unique solutions, instead of following a memorized formula. I have witnessed many classes where students are given the opportunity to suggest multiple ways of approaching the same problem. This has really helped my children develop independent learning skills and a stronger foundation in mathematics. The staff truly care for each and every student’s growth. Every child gets an abundance of individual attention. Programs such as the math competition classes, MATHCOUNTS Trainer Contest, and Short Story Contest really challenge the kids to reach up to the next level. The language arts classes like Debate & Public Speaking and College Essay Writing provide a much higher quality of education for their students. Thank you so much for being such a valuable resource for my children. "
